Where did
that dog come from?
On May 3rd,
2008 Erica and I attended a fundraiser event for the
J.M. Bryan Foundation in Royal
Oak, MD. A major part of the event is a live auction with many
wonderful items such as art, pottery, jewelry, furniture,
vacations, fishing trips, and much much more! It's really a great event and
lots of fun. Well, one of the items up for auction was this
adorable Beagle puppy. After a blur of excitement and bidding
(a lot of which came from clients and strangers in
the crowd donating random amounts of money), the auction closed with
the auctioneer saying something like "SOLD to this young lady for
$1000!". The young lady was Erica, not me. That's the very short version of how we got this
puppy. Crazy, I know.
Where did
the name "Peter S. Beagle" come from?
As a child and
adult, one of Erica's favorite authors has been Peter S. Beagle (The
Last Unicorn). Since childhood, she's always promised herself
that if she ever had a beagle, it would be named Peter. It's
that simple. Originally, the "S." in the name stood for Soyer.
Since my dog isn't really a tribute to the author, I don't feel it
necessary to name him "Peter Soyer Beagle". I haven't decided
what the S. will stand for, but it will most likely be something
like "Shotgun", "Short-Mag", or perhaps "Squishy".
Is Peter as
squish-able as he looks?
Yes. Yes
he is. Even more so than he looks. Imagine a bag of
squishy, and then put big ears and feet on it.
